Urgent Notice for Shippers: Potential CBSA Strike and Its Impact on Shipments to and from Canada

Update: June 4, 2024

Attention cross-border shippers,

We are writing to inform you of a potential disruption to our services due to a possible strike by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) as early as June 6th.

What's Happening?

Over 9,000 CBSA employees, including border services officers, have been working without a contract for two years. They are seeking better wages, improved working conditions, and more flexibility around remote work. The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), the union representing CBSA workers, has voted in favor of strike action if their demands are not met.

How Could This Affect You?

A CBSA strike could lead to significant delays and disruptions at the border, impacting the movement of goods and people between Canada and the U.S. This could result in:

  • Longer wait times: Expect increased processing times at border crossings, ports, and airports.

  • Shipment delays: Shipments may experience delays, especially for goods that require customs clearance.

  • Travel disruptions: Travelers may face longer lines and potential cancellations or delays in flights and other transportation.

What We're Doing

We are closely monitoring the situation and working with our partners to minimize any potential disruptions to your shipments and travel plans. We will continue to update you as we receive more information.
